Marie E. Berk, 89, Enjoyed Gardening and Sewing

She was born September 24, 1913 in Amherst where she was raised and has lived her entire life.

Marie was a homemaker. She was a member of Old Stone Untied Methodist Church where she participated in the Sarah Circle and was a former Sunday School Teacher and Nursery Worker. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include 7 grandchildren: 12 great grandchildren, her brothers, Rev. Edward Frederick of Arroyo Grand, CA and Raymond Frederick of Lorain; her sisters Jennie Whittemore of Plymouth, MA and Dorothy Stevenson of Westlake; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bob Berk in 1991; and by her son, Richard Berk in 1973, her daughter, Darlene Ursem in 2001; her parents, George and Verna (nee Roger) Frederick; her brothers Melvin and Walter Frederick; her sisters Kathleen Mead, Ethel Werner and Ruth Hornyak.

Friends may call Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00 p.m. from Old Stone United Methodist Church, 553 South Main Street, Amherst. The Rev. Peter Kerlin, pastor of Old Stone United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
