Maria N. Aviles, 54, Avid Pool Player

Maria N. Aviles, 54 of Lorain, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 in Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born September 11, 1948 in Oregon, Ohio. She was a life long resident of Lorain.

Mrs. Aviles was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She was also a member of the Mexican Mutual Society; she helped in the Mexican International Festival booth. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous Sunday Night Sobriety Group in South Lorain. She was an avid pool player on South Lorain league.

Among the survivors is her sons Pete L. Aviles, Jr. of Temecula, California and Paul and Michael Aviles both of Lorain; brothers Emiliano Mendiola, Jr. of Lorain, Raul Mendiola of Strongsville and Enrique, Jr., Magdaleno and Robert Ybarra all of Toledo, sisters Julie Hernandez of Lorain, Margie Valdez of San Antonio, Texas, Rebecca Rodriguez, Anita Ybarra, Carolina Torres and Rosa Davila all of Toledo and Six Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years Pete L. Aviles in 1978; her parents Emiliano and Maria (nee Hernandez) Mendiola; brothers Jesse Mendiola and Freddy Ybarra.

Friends may call Tuesday 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 8:45 AM with closing prayers in the funeral home followed by 9:30 AM Mass of the Resurrection in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
