Richard Caldwell, 55, Marine Veteran and US Steel Group Leader

Photo of Richard Caldwell Richard Caldwell, 55 of Vermilion, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at St. Joseph Family Medical Center in Andover, Ohio after a long illness.

He was born May 20, 1947 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and he has been a Vermilion resident for the past 48 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He worked as a group leader in the maintenance department of U.S. Steel in Loran for 35 years.

He was a life member of AMVETS Post #22 Vermilion, American Legion Post #397, Vermilion; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7576. He was a member of Vermilion Fish and Game and Steelworkers Union Local #1104. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, weight lifting, motorcycles and was a spectator sport enthusiast.

Survivors include his father, Ernest C. Caldwell, his brother, Ernie Caldwell and a step daughter, Valerie Conway all of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (nee Clutter) Caldwell in 1995.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. A Veteran Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. conducted by the Vermilion Veterans Council.

Services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home on Friday, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Terry Parker, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
