Robert Brandt, 79, Electrician

Robert Brandt, age 79, of Lorain, died Saturday, October 5, 2002 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an extended illness.

He was born April 20, 1923 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city. Mr. Brandt attended the St. Anthony of Padua Parish School and went on to graduate in the 1941 B class from Lorain High School.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served as an Electrician's Mate Second Class aboard the destroyer escort USS Bangust in the South Pacific.

He was employed as an electrician for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Avon Lake for 36 years; he retired in 1986.

A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, he was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #637 as well as VFW Post #496 of Lorain. He enjoyed traveling and participated in numerous trips sanctioned by the Paduan Travelers of Lorain. He also enjoyed his Navy reunions and high school breakfasts, as well as flower and vegetable gardening and building scale models of boats and automobiles.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Alice (nee Brusso), daughters: Mrs. Dennis (Cheryl) Stewart of Circleville, Ohio, Mrs. Edward (Debbie) Dunham of North Ridgeville, 5 grandchildren, and a sister: Lucille Bark of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Dunham, parents: Leroy and Louise (nee Brzostowski) Brandt, sister: Hazel Glahn, and by brothers: Frank, John, Albert and Ralph.

Friends may call Friday, October 11, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by his funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Reverend George Vrabel, associate pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, where military honors will be conducted by Mullen-Murray Post 451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Brandt's name to either: The Pediatric Cardiology Unit of Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, 11100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-5000, to St. Joseph Catholic School, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio 44001, or to St. Anthony School, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
