Shalimar L. Fanning, 47, Clearview Schools Secretary
Shalimar Lorayne Fanning (nee Armstrong), 47, of Vermilion Township died Monday September 23, 2002 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.She was born December 12, 1954 in Neon, Kentucky and had resided in the Lorain area most of her life.
She was a 1973 graduate of Clearview High School in Sheffield Township. She attended Lorain County Community College in Elyria and graduated from paralegal school in Cleveland.
Mrs. Fanning worked at Clearview High School as the Pupil Personnel Secretary for eight years. Prior to that she worked as an Accounting Clerk at General Industries in Elyria for ten years. She also worked as a secretary at K Mart in Amherst for ten years. Mrs. Fanning was a partner with her mom in their Bittersweet Annie in Vermilion, which sold gifts and collectibles.
Mrs. Fanning attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Vermilion Township and was a past member of Broadway Assembly in Sheffield Township.
She was a secretary for the Clearview Educational Foundation and a program chair for North Coast Decorative Artists. She coached 7th grade volleyball for Clearview Schools and was yearbook advisor. She enjoyed tole painting, crafting, sewing and walking.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years Peter "Bruce" Fanning, mother Betty L. Armstrong (nee Meade) of Lorain, brothers John Armstrong of Amherst, Steve Armstrong of Lorain and Daniel Armstrong of Elyria and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her father J.B. Armstrong in March 2002.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Elder Frank Palacios and Elder Mark Naro of the Church of Jesus Christ in Lorain will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
