Helen A. Pirnack Drozdowski, 75, Enjoyed playing Bingo
Helen A. Pirnack Drozdowski, age 75, of Sheffield Village, died Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph following an extended illness.She was born April 12, 1927 in Lorain and had been a resident of Sheffield Village since 1960.
Mrs. Drozdowski attended Oakwood and Whittier Schools and was a graduate of Lorain High School. She went on to complete one year of business school.
A parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church, she was an extremely outgoing person who developed a vast network of friends who visited her extensively throughout her illness. Caregivers at the New Life Hospice stated that they had never witnessed such an outpouring of support. She was also regarded as the adopted "grandma" to many of the children in her neighborhood. She also always seemed to be the focal point of family gatherings.
Her hobbies include playing bingo, baking, and cooking. Among her favorite dishes to prepare were such ethnic favorites as pierogi and stuffed cabbage.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Edward M. Drozdowski, daughter, Karen Flaherty of Vermilion, sons: Edward N. "Skip" Drozdowski of Lorain, 3 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and brothers Steven Pirnack of Lorain and David N. Pirnack of Mead, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Nicholas and Katherine (nee Kuzela) Pirnack.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 22, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the St. John Roman Catholic Church, Grove Avenue and Homewood Drive. The Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
