Marvin E. "Gene" "Ironside" Clary, 65, Volunteer Fire Fighter

Marvin E. "Gene" "Ironside" Clary, age 65, of Birmingham, died Friday, September 13, 2002, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo following a longtime illness.

He was born on November 14, 1936 in Birmingham, Ohio where he had been a lifelong resident.

He had worked for the Ford Motor Company for 7 years until 1974. He was also a member of the Florence Township Volunteer Fire Department and had become disabled following an accident 28 years ago. In the years following his disability, he enjoyed CB Radios and was known by his handle "Ironside". He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandson. He had also worked for Texaco, Opperman Cider Mill and the American Ship Building Company.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl "Cherrie" (nee Camp) Clary of Birmingham; daughters, Michel Clary of Maumee and Jennifer White of Crestwood, KY; son, Don Clary of Birmingham, grandson, Ryan White of Crestwood, KY; brothers, Mary Clary of Castalia and Richard Clary of Elyria; Aunt, Bernie Lence of S. Amherst.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mark E. "Jim" and Beatrice (nee Fleming) Clary, a brother; Donald Clary, a sister, Joan Barley, grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Friends may call Sunday, September 15, 2002 from 4-8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Birmingham Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham, with the Reverend Jan Sprague officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donors choice.
