John Belt, 76, Brick Mason

Born February 13, 1926 in Amherst, Ohio, he had lived in Birmingham 41 years. He was raised in the Amherst and Brownhelm area and had also lived in Lorain.
He was a veteran of the Untied States Navy serving during WWII
He was a brick mason fro Bricklayers Union Local #34, Elyria retiring in 1988 after 50 years.
He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church where he had volunteered doing yard work, and helped as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Amherst Golf Association, a life member of the Amherst American Legion, a former member of the Amherst Eagles, and the Wakeman Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy "Betty" Belt (nee Howat) to whom he was married 52 years; daughters, Claudia Bunt, Vermilion, Pam Kmitt, Birmingham, and Liz Belt, Birmingham; 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. He was preceded in death by his son, John in 1993; a sister, Mary, brothers, Tony and Paul and his parents Paul and Mary Belt.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at the Birmingham United Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham, Ohio. The Reverend Jan Sprague, pastor will officiate. The Amherst VFW will conduct military honors following the service.
