Adolf Stransky, 84, Sports Enthusiast
Adolf Stransky, 84, of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital.Born December 27, 1917 in Lorain, he lived her his entire life where he attended Lorain High School.
He served in the US Army as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II, having participated in the battles and campaigns of Sicily, Rome, Rhineland, and Southern France. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze stars and a bronze arrowhead.
He worked for Lorain Works US Steel as a second helper in the open hearth, retiring in 1968 after 25 years of service.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.
An enthusiast of all sports, he especially liked to watch baseball.
Surviving is his wife, Anna (nee Tomasic), to whom he was married to for 56 years, 4 sons, Adolf of Palatine, IL, David and Donald both of Lorain, and James of Amherst, 3 daughters, Phyllis Krzys, of Valley City, OH, Diane Long of Naperville, IL and Carolyn Campana of Lorain, 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, a brother, Stanley Stransky of Lorain, sister, Helen "Ida" Bobrowski of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Della (nee Tracewicz) Stransky, 2 sisters, France Fritz and Josephine Crisamore, and 5 brothers, Phillip, Adam, Joseph, John and Ed.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends may also call Saturday, September 14th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th Street and Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shmuga, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
