Lucy Elizabeth New, 61, excellent cook and enjoyed reading
Lucy Elizabeth New (nee Hammond), 61 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Community Health Partners S & H Center, Lorain following a brief illness.She was born June 2, 1941 in Delta, Kentucky where she was raised and lived till 1956 when she moved to Amherst. She has been a resident of Lorain since 1973.
Mrs. New was a member of Sheffield Church of God, Sheffield Village where she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary and was a former Sunday school Teacher. She was a devoted homemaker and excellent cook and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Dallas Smiley New; her daughters Debi Tisler of Elyria, Beverly Jeavons of Springfield, OH and Hope Mesa of Brooklyn, OH; two grandsons; her brother Cecil Hammond of Spiceland, Indiana, Jesse Hammond and Corbin "Bud" Hammond, both of Monticello, Kentucky, and Paul Hammond of Hagerstown, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy D. New in 1979; by her parents Corbin and Vada (nee Branscum) Hammond; by her brothers David and Warren Hammond; and by her sister Helen New.
Friend may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00 p.m. from the Sheffield Church of God; 2286 North Abbe Rd., Sheffield Village. The Rev. Michael LeBuhn, pastor, Rev. Jim Shaffer associate pastor, and a special brother-in-law, Rev. Don New, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
