Elwyn G. "Elly" Urig, 72, Lifelong Avon Resident
Elwyn G. "Elly" Urig, 72, of Avon passed away, Saturday August 24 at the Rae-Ann Suburban Nursing Home, Westlake following a short illness (complications of a stroke). Mr. Urig was born April 8, 1930 in Avon where she was a lifelong resident. Elly was a 1948 graduate of Avon High School where he served as a captain of the football team. He was employed as a Bricklayer for 51 years for Local 5 in Cuyahoga County and Local 34 in Lorain County. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Avon and enjoyed gardening.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou (nee Novotny); two sons, Michael of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Terence "Terry" of Avon; two daughters, Susan Urig (Jim Kubitz) of Anchorage, Alaska and Mary Beth Rumburg (Edward) of Chardon, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, two sisters, Joan Dreistadt of Rocky River and Mary McGuire of Rocky River and a brother, Quentin "Tinny" of Avon Lake.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen; four brothers, Alton, Don, Monsignor Regis and Ray Urig and a sister, Helen Urig; and parents, Leo J. and Agnes (nee Schwartz) Urig.
Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMESITER FAMILY CHAPEL, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. Prayers Services will be held a the funeral home Wednesday August 28 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon at 10:00 a.m. Fr. John Misenko, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Jaycox Rd., Avon.
