Blanche Snowdon, 90, Teacher and Counselor
Blanche Snowdon (nee Moos), 90 years of age, and a former resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria following a brief illness.She was born October 4, 1911 in Lorain where she was raised and graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1929. She had been a resident of Amherst since 1958 prior to moving to Elyria a few years ago.
She received her Bachelor in Education from Oberlin College in 1933 and received advance training at Case Western Reserve University. She was employed with the Lorain Public Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1972 as a teacher and counselor. She was a very active member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Amherst where she was active in the United Fellowship and Women's Guild, Altar Guild and the Prayer Chain. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women; the national and local group of American Association of Retired Persons; Senior Citizens of Amherst; the Retired Teachers of Ohio; and the Stone City Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Snowdon was also a volunteer for Amherst Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Roger S. Snowdon of Indianapolis, IN, two granddaughters, and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, William s. Snowdon in 1981; by her daughter Carol Jean Snowdon in 1986; by her parents William Henry and Elsie (nee Brooks) Moos; and by her brother, William E. Moos in 1970.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from the Elyria United Methodist Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria with Rev. Beth McKee, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Carol Jean Snowdon's Memorial Fund at Baldwin Wallace College, Berea, Ohio 44017.
The Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
