Richard R. Ready, 79, US Army Veteran
Richard R. Ready, age 79, of Lorain, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at his daughters home in Lorain following a short illness.He was born on October 29, 1922 in Salem, Ohio and has been a resident of Lorain for most of his life.
He was a Veteran of the US Army during WWII. He had served 13 months in the European Theater with the 76th Infantry Division, 1417th Regiment L Company. He participated in the Central European Campaign as a rifleman and received the American Theater Ribbon, European-American Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
He attended St. Mary School and High School in Lorain. He worked as an equipment operator for the City of Lorain Street Department for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of PLAV Post 38 in Lorain and had the United Polish Club in Lorain and Elyria. He was an avid Notre Dame and Cleveland Indians fan, enjoyed golfing and traveling to Arizona.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jeanette (nee Kujawski) Ready of Lorain; daughters, Karen Pietch of Amherst and Maureen Shannon of Lorain; sons, Michael Ready of Cleveland and Patrick Ready of Scottsdale, AZ; 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma (nee Andric) Ready and a brother, Henry Ready Jr.
Friends may call on Friday, August 16, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary service will be said by the Holy Name Society at 7 p.m.
Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain. Family friend and pastor of Church of the Resurrection in Solon, Reverend Mark Hobson, will be the Celebrant and Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of Nativity BVM will be the con-celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the PLAV Post 38 in Lorain.
