Helen G. Kokinda, 80, Enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, and cooking

Helen G. Kokinda (nee Mitro), age 80, of Amherst, died Monday August 12, 2002 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an extended illness. She was born November 12, 1921 in Lorain and had been a resident of Amherst for the past 42 years.

Mrs. Kokinda attended the Lorain Public Schools. She was also employed as an inspector at US Steel's Lorain Works from 1941-1951.

A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, her hobbies included sewing, traveling, and cooking.

She is survived by her husband: George C. Kokinda, a son: Robert G. Kokinda of Dumfries, Virginia, one grandson, and sister: Mary Lou Mitro of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Nick and Mary (nee Hrinda) Mitro, and brothers: Mike, John, and Nick.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church - 200 St. Joseph Drive - Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
