Mary A. Kontos, 90, Enjoyed Cooking and Sewing
Mary A. Kontos (nee Lucanic), age 90, of Elyria died on Friday, August 2, 2002 at her home, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.Born February 8, 1912 in Lorain, moving to southern Lorain County in 1920 then settled in Elyria in 1933.
She was employed at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria as the head cook for 25 years, retiring in 1972. Mary and her husband George, co-owned and operated several restaurants in Elyria, including Mill Street Lunch in the 1930's and G& G Restaurant in the 1950's. She also owned and managed numerous rental properties in Elyria.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain and also attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain.
Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling to Greece and Slovakia.
She is survived by her son: Nicholas, of Elyria and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband: George J. in 1965, brothers: John J. Lucanic in 1995 and Joseph G. Lucanic and parents: Joseph and Anna (nee Sandrej) Lucanic.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where a Trisayion prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2002 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Michael Gulgas, pastor will officiate and Rev. Fr. Milan Zobenica, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
