Melville A. Spaid, 93, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain after a long illness.

Mr. Spaid was born on June 25, 1909 in Uhrichsville, Ohio and moved into Lorain in the 1920's. He was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1928. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. He owned and operated Spaid Insurance Company for many years.

He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Lorain Masonic Lodge #552, F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Al Koran Temple, Lorain County Shrine club, Senior Fellowship, was a trustee of the Black River Historical Society.

Mr. Spaid enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid collector of Chinese snuff boxes and bottles.

He is survived by his son, David M. Spaid of Torrance, CA, 2 grandsons, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Spaid was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey P. (nee Cozad) Spaid, his parents, Frederick and May (nee Buxton) Spaid.

Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052 on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Masonic Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. provided by his Lodge.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. William Spaid officiating.

Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Black River Historical Society, 309 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.
