Andrew J. Pittak, 85, US Army Veteran
Andrew J. Pittak, 85, of Oberlin, died Friday July 26, 2002 at the Elyria United Methodist Village after a long illness.He was born September 2, 1916 in Lorain and had resided in Oberlin since 1978 moving from Lorain.
Mr. Pittak served with the US Army as a master sergeant during World War II.
He worked at the Koehring Division of Thew Shovel in Lorain as a master welder for 35 years retiring in 1977. He previously worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Elyria and a past member of the Lorain Camera Club and Lorain Rifle & Pistol Club. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his daughter: Mary Ann Hromada of Oberlin and Judith Ann Ingley of Tampa, Florida; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sisters Helen Drabiak of Avon and Anna Boyce of South Amherst and brothers Frank Pittak and Joseph Pittak, both of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia (nee Blake) in 1977, parents Joseph and Helen (nee Straka) Pittak and brother Pittak in infancy.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of prayer services at 10:15 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A funeral mass will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 162 Ironside, Elyria with Rev. Albert Krupp, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Elyria and the Rev. Mr. Edward Dillon, permanent deacon of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic church of Elyria, Concelebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
