Harold E. Smith, 73, enjoyed turkey and deer hunting
Harold E. Smith, 73 years of age, and a resident of Amherst for 43 years, passed away Wednesday morning on July 17, 2002, at New Life Hospice, Lorain.He was born April 6, 1929 in Berlin, PA. He graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 1947. That same year he moved to Lorain, Ohio and started working at US Steel. He was employed by Lorain Creamery for 26 years starting in 1951. He was also a Realtor for 26 years. He served as past president of the Lorain Board of Realtors. Harold greatly loved and faithfully served the Amherst Family Fellowship Foursquare Church since 1956. He served in many capacities at the church including being president of the church council, a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and also serving on the church Board of Deacons. He also served on the Board of Regents at Life Bible College for 6 years. He built, owned and operated Smith's Superwash in Lorain for 22 years. He has been a resident of Amherst for the past 43 years.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed turkey and deer hunting. Many special memories were made at the family farm in Pennsylvania. He especially enjoyed vacationing with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth A. (nee Messenger) Smith of 53 years; son Daryl W. Smith of Brownhelm Township, daughters Marilyn R. Baldwin of Dousman, Wisconsin, and Cheri L. Ramsburg of Hartville, Ohio, and his grandchildren d. Joshua Smith, Lauren S. Smith. Hallie M. (Baldwin) Winter, J. Michael Baldwin, Morgan K. Ramsburg and Christian H. Ramsburg. He is also survived by his brother Dale Smith and his sister Patty Dietle.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, 780 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. William Mouer will officiate.
